Volume 66:  Influencing Others

SEPTEMBER 2019

“Horses, Water, And Their Sometimes Paradoxical Relationship”

This month’s eLEAD theme is one of the top characteristics of leadership effectiveness as identified by Towers Watson. The focus for September is influencing the actions and behaviors of others to accomplish changes in the local church.

We want to explore how church leaders can influence others to effect positive change in the local church. We all know the wisdom, “You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink.” So then, what a leader is left with is influence. Three articles from three perspectives cover this topic. Margaret Marcuson writes as a coach to pastors. Michael Kurtz writes as a pastor. David Lisk writes as a lay leader in a local church. Enjoy this edition of eLead, and go influence some change!

And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds. -Hebrews 10:24 (NRSV)

This month’s eLEAD has been coordinated by Rev. J. Daniel Hester. Dan is the pastor of Skyland UMC, Asheville, NC of the Blue Ridge District.
