From the Board of Laity-
An emphasis during this next quadrennium will be on Gracious Accountability Groups.

Ron Ballard wrote these two articles:
What are gracious accountability groups? How do they function?

Why are gracious accountability discipleship groups important?

Share this with the laity in your congregation. Be watching for a survey that will be mailed to each congregation later in August.

October is domestic violence awareness month --prepare your church with this online workshop

Do you know how to spot the signs and act to help someone in your church or community?  An online workshop by Dr. Martha Banks is being hosted at BeADisciple.com which looks at domestic violence from a Christian standpoint and will help churches, clergy, and individuals recognize signs of domestic abuse and support victims in their community.

Cost is just $45 for this comprehensive two-week course.  Class starts on Monday, September 11.  Learn more and enroll at http://www.beadisciple.com/online-christian-courses/ifd325-faith-communities-response-to-domestic-violence/.

Mentor a young person in your life toward their vocational call from God
God calls every person in a way that combines their interests, faith, and gifts. Become a mentor to a young person in your community and help them discover their vocational calling.  The Timothy Circle has created an online mentor training workshop to give adults the tools and resources to be successful mentors.  The 4-week workshop costs just $45 and connects participants to a community of fellow mentors as well as a database of volunteer, work, and educational opportunities to help young people clarify their call.  Visit www.TimothyCircle.com to sign up for an August, or September training.

Here’s Some Good News For College Students . . .

The United Methodist Credit Union (TUMCU) is offering SnapLoan, an educational line of credit available to help with the funding gap once scholarships, subsidized federal student loans and college savings accounts have been exhausted. The program comes with exceptionally low rates for students attending any accredited college and even lower rates for students attending seminary or Methodist affiliated schools within the United Methodist Conferences we serve.

It’s structured as a low fixed rate Line of Credit

  • Only one application-no need to reapply each year
  • No annual FAFSA required
  •  Quick and easy one page application
  • Complete flexibility to draw the money whenever you see fit (subject to annual limits)
  • Funds can be used for any educational related expense-even study abroad
  • Borrowers may need a co-signer if not otherwise qualified

Visit www.tumcusnaploan.com or call 866-657-0004 for details or to apply online.
*All loans are subject to approval and credit restrictions apply. Must be a TUMCU member to apply.

Online master’s in Wesleyan youth ministry now enrolling
Earn a master’s degree or certification in Wesleyan youth ministry from Southwestern College! Learn practical, applicable theology from top United Methodist scholars alongside other youth workers from around the country.  Courses will help you plan confirmation classes, UMYF lessons, and mission trips that are theologically sound while giving you the tools you need to counsel and lead your youth like never before. No travel is required for this degree – all of the master’s-level courses are entirely online. Apply and start the program at any time, but Fall 2017 courses start August 14 and are a great place to begin. The program’s academic advisor can guide you through the application and acceptance process.  Learn more and apply at www.beadisciple.com/masm/youth or email masm@sckans.edu.
